There is a reunion with one of the most popular fringe ensemble productions, which was created in 2001 and always finds its way onto our repertoire. After a break of eight years, this time we are not in Bonn with the production, but at the festival “Theater unterm Himmelszelt” in Ladenburg.

A large table becomes a stage and yet remains what it is: a table at which audience and actors sit together, eat and drink – and experience Elio Vittorini’s wonderful story of a journey into the past, into the homeland.

“Tasting the land in the south …an intense theatrical experience worth seeing.” (General-Anzeiger Bonn)

Silvestro receives a letter from his father informing him that he has separated from Silvestro’s mother. Plagued by his indifference to political and private events, he decides to go back to the Sicilian mountains after 15 years to visit his mother. It will not only be a reunion with the mother, but a journey into memories and origins, an examination of oneself and one’s attitudes and values, a search for identity and a passionate appeal for freedom.

The globally acclaimed novel “Conversations in Sicily” was written in 1937 under the impression of the Spanish Civil War. That year, Fascist Italy had sent Blackshirts in alliance with the German Nazis to support Franco.
