Gregor Schwellenbach works as a composer and musician in the border area between pop culture and classical tradition, between concert hall and club. He writes music for theater, film and television as well as instrumental arrangements for artists such as Irmin Schmidt (Can), The London Symphony Orchestra, Megaloh, Maxim, WDR Funkhausorchester.

His chamber music tribute for the techno label Kompakt won the VIA Indie Award 2014 for “Best Experiment”. To mark Steve Reich’s 80th birthday, he produced a new recording of his “Six Pianos” with Hauschka, Brandt Brauer Frick, John Kameel Farah, Grandbrothers and Schwellenbach himself, which was performed live at venues including the Elbphilharmonie.

He has a longstanding collaboration with the fringe ensemble, which has included vocal and instrumental, electronic and acoustic, live and produced music. Among other things, he developed his specially composed music theater evening “Zucker” with the ensemble and the music for Goran Ferčec’s play “Arbeitsschlachten”, “Drones – eine Drohnenoper” and “Die Flaneure Athen” (2017). Most recently, he composed the multilingual spoken work “B9” for the international spoken choir of the fringe ensemble and is now part of the artist:in team of the -> Garden of Resistance.
