At the beginning of UN-FLÜCHTIG there is an overcoming. Not those national borderlines, but those from the I to the you, from the own to the other and back. Then it can take place: the cautious as well as curious, respectful as well as lively encounter.

The fringe ensemble goes into series with UN-FLÜCHTIG and seeks – beyond all theories and measures of possible integration – simply the approach.

The research of I and He/She/Es/Thou leads through selected partnerships: actors and actresses of the fringe ensemble try the serious case of a very personal encounter with refugees here in Bonn. The focus of the project is on sharing with individuals, perhaps siblings, friends, couples, family members. Over a longer period of time it is about an invitation and an admission, about exchange instead of mixing, about dialogue despite or because of differences in language, thinking, behavior and belief.

What has happened so far: Bettina Marugg, with the help of Sonnhild Schietzel, has been getting to know Syrians who have fled to Bonn since November: Bashar Omar, Abdullah Juoma, Moaz Chachit, his sister Nirmin and their children Rami and Karim. They visited a mosque, cooked a Syrian meal together, went to the authorities together more or less successfully, overcame obstacles and talked a lot with each other and learned a lot about each other.

In UN-FLÜCHTIG #1 Bettina Marugg gave the visitors in the ballroom an insight into her personal protocol of these encounters, while Bashar, Abdullah, Mouaz and Nermeen reported on different events of their flight and their thoughts here in Germany.

In UN-FLÜCHTIG #2, the audience was able to approach the young Syrians in very different spaces and scenarios. The focus was not on issues of big politics, but on personal matters. It was about intensifying encounters, listening, looking, asking questions.

For UN-FLÜCHTIG #3, Bashar, Nirmin and Moaz recorded in diary form what they experience in their everyday lives in Germany, what surprises them, what moves them. Frank Heuel will bring this recording to the stage with actors from the fringe ensemble.
