We are happy about the NRW Spitzenförderung!

We are one of twelve ensembles to receive top-level funding from the state of NRW for 2019 to 2022. The Minister of Culture and Science, Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, said: “With their experimental works, independent theaters provide important artistic impulses in the North Rhine-Westphalian theater landscape. The twelve ensembles selected by the juries for top-level funding for theater and children’s and youth theater stand for outstanding quality and, with their artistic approaches, have a formative influence on the independent scene in the state. The additional funding is intended to encourage the ensembles to further professionalize their work and gain even greater national and international visibility.”

The jury’s statement of reasons for supporting the fringe ensemble reads:

The fringe ensemble is characterized by an internationally oriented ensemble structure and a production method that focuses on language and language use and is accompanied by long-term research work. The director of the ensemble, Frank Heuel, has also become an important German partner in the Istanbul theater scene with his work. The internationalization of the fringe ensemble is currently gaining new momentum through the cooperation with non-European partners in Burkina Faso.

The top-level funding enables us to continue working in this spirit both nationally and internationally and, on this basis, to develop steadily in our ensemble structure as well as in our theater work. At the moment Frank Heuel and Annika Ley are working again on a project in Istanbul (premiere: 20. May), end of May until mid-June we show our German-Burkin production BRILLANTE SALETÉ in Bonn (German premiere), in Münster (in the framework of the NRW-Theatertreffen), in Bochum, Leipzig and Berlin and with the city event “Golden City” the interactive research phase for gold project LIEBER GOLD IM MUND ALS PORZELLAN IM SAFE by fringe ensemble and Theater Bonn starts in the middle of Bonn on June 1st.
