We are happy about the funding of our German-Kurdish research project mikan – #Homeland #Hope #Location #Place by the Fonds Darstellende Künste. The focus will be on aspects of finding and asserting home. In Kurdish, mikan means not only home, but also hope or, neutrally, place and location – a reference to the fact that home is anything but a clear-cut thing for Kurds. With the research by two Kurds living in Istanbul – Mirza Mertin and Bilge Kuttlu, on the one hand the necessary knowledge and the corresponding sensitivity and on the other hand a productive distance in the conversation with Kurds living here is given.
During their research in summer 2017, Mirza Metin and Bilge Kutlu conducted interviews with Kurds in NRW and asked: Which identity-forming characteristics are of particular importance for Kurdish migrants in the homebase NRW? How does identity formation work among members of a homeless people who are also differentiated by different religions, languages, origins? Which topics determine the Kurdish community here in Germany, and which are deliberately left out?
